“ I'm overdue in writing this. And as of tonight, Sunday, 11/24, this great little gem will be no more! I went tonight to learn they're closing the location and moving to Wahiawa to open a cafe with a new name. I will miss having this delicious Indian food within walking distance. Mr. Desi was always welcoming and the food never failed to miss when I needed Indian comfort food. I guess once I have to travel further, it will taste even better! And perhaps a larger facility will allow him to expand the menu. That sounds promising to my tummy. ”
“ A cozy restaurant in food court area around Wikki Beach. It serves simple but tatsy Indian food. The owner was accommodative and recommended us the vegetarian meal for us which we were looking for. ”
“ Small local businesses that serves simple but great flavors. This little hole in the wall Indian restaurant is a great find. Don't let the plate plates keep you away. Naan was warm and fresh, butter chicken was full of flavor, I scoop up all the sauce I could with my rice and naan. I was so excited to eat I forgot to take a before pic , so you get a mid meal picture. There was also another couple next to us loving the food just as much as us!! ”
“ I was excited to see Indian food here! I appreciate the owner's kindness. As for the food I feel like the chicken was pre cooked and warmed in the butter sauce. The naan isn't made fresh and I'm used to minced garlic and herbs. This naan looked store bought topped with some butter and salty garlic powder. ”
“ My husband and I are on vacation in Waikiki. We had been struggling to find GOOD vegan food. On our third day here... we stumbled across Desi's Indian Curry. Oh myyyyy God! What a hidden gem. They have three vegan options: Vegan Chana Masala, Vegan Daal, and Vegan Coconut Vegetable Korma. We ordered all three. Hands down a life saver and the most delicious food we've had. The flavors are insanely delicious. We can taste the love that is put in making these dishes. Oh, and let's not forget the vegan warm Naan that was fluffy and delicious. We got to meet the chef and owner, Ash. Whom was so welcoming... he even made us a Vegan Lassi. So delicious! My husband and I are obsessed and will definitely come back again and again. The vibe is casual, and there's plenty of seating. See you soon, Chef Ash! ”
“ I've been wanting to try this place, so I decided to go around lunch time to avoid the dinner rush. When I arrived, there was no line, and I was able to place my order pretty easily. The owner was pleasant taking my order and answering questions. I sat down to wait and was surprised to find 4 groups ahead of me with meals for maybe 14 people, so the wait was longer than expected, maybe 25-30 minutes. I took the food home and was quite pleased. The Chat Papri was refreshing and flavorful. I enjoyed the sturdy crisp crackers, cool yogurt, and burst of fresh spices. The Matar Paneer was creamy, spicy, and had plenty of firm cheese cubes. I ate the curry with the basmati rice which was hot, freshly made, and perfectly cooked. I would go back, the location is convenient, and the food definitely satisfied my curry craving. I paid $25 for two dishes and there was enough food for 2+ meals. ”
“ This is a literal hole in the wall, a hidden gem in the middle of Waikiki that serves perhaps the best Indian food across all the islands. Chef Ashwani started his journey over 4 decades ago at Delhis iconic Taj Mahal hotel in 1978. Since then he made his way to DC and has operated several restaurants until he made his way to Hawaii. Tip: Lunch is the time to go, where it isn't crazy like the evenings, and Chef Ashwani may have the time to customize the dishes (we requested paneer be added to Mufi's vegetable - a favorite of the Hawaiin mayor). We liked to the food so much we came back twice for the North Indian fare (think more curries). We had the excellent Chana masala made Amritsari style (supposedly the OG), the succulent paneer with mufi veggies in a mild Hawaiin tomato creamy gravy, a succulent lentil dish called dal makhani made with homemade ghee. Everything is prepared fresh and made to order, without it being oily or one noted. Rice comes complimentary with all curries. Ask for medium spicy, or if you want to amp it a little but don't want it too hot, the medium plus is the secret code. Get the garlic naan, it comes with a light layer of garlic, basil and butter. If you are tired of poke, pizza, salads, bbq, it's a solid choice to sample some of chef Ashwani's succulent cuisine that will leave your taste buds tingling. We will be back on our next trip. Thank you Chef for not diluting the essence of Indian food. ”
“ This was a fun find right behind our hotel. Literally, chilling in the pool on the 14th floor and suddenly... do you smell curry? We had to find it so got dressed, went on a search and found this back alley gem. A small food court of a handful of joints -- curry, kebabs, ramen/udon... We tried the butter chicken and chicken curry. I'm referred the former. Huge side of raita (meh), and delicious naan with a garlic butter. Service was friendly and quick. Will return. ”
